There are 2 different ways you can create text files – select the one that works best for you.
Option 1:
Open PowerTeacher
Select the attendance icon for one class
Highlight the student’s names
Copy
Open a Word document
Paste
Now you need to save this file as a text file
File menu > Save As
Save As: type in a name (set3)
Where: selection a location you will remember where the file is
Format: Plain Text (.txt)
Now you have a text file for one class. Repeat this process for all of your other classes before moving to the next step.
Option 2:
Open your gradebook in PowerTeacher
Select a class
Select the Student Roster Report
Output type: CSV
Sections: Selected class
Student Info: Student name
Run Report
Click on Open Report which brings up an Excel Spreadsheet
If you know how to delete rows 1 & 2, do so. If you don’t, keep them as you can delete these from the seating chart
File Menu > Save As
Save As: type in a name (set 3)
Where: select a location you will remember where the file is
Format: Tab Delimited Text (.txt)
Now you have a text file for one class. Repeat this process for all of your other classes before moving to the next step.
Creating Seating Charts
Open Charts & Drills OSX Program
Creating Room Arrangement:
File Menu > New Room Arrangement
Create your own room arrangement. Click on “Add Desk” and move to desired location and continue adding desks until you have your room created or just put one desk in as others will automatically be created when you import your student names.
NOTE: If you take the time to create one room arrangement, you won’t need to do it again. If you just add one desk and then import the names, desks will be created but you will have to create the room for each class.
Use “Show Prefs” to make changes to the Room Arrangement
Save the room arrangement – File Menu > Save Room Arrangement
Creating Seating Chart:
File menu > New Chart > click on Custom Arrangement > Select the room arrangement you just made > click on select Room Arrangement File > Import Text File > select the class text file you created above for the class you want to create the seating chart for > Select Class File
Move the desks around to create your classroom – if you move a desk that already has a student’s name and drag it on top of another desk, it will switch those student’s desks
Save the Seating Chart - File Menu > Save Chart As
